Verrocchio was the most important Italian sculptor of the second half of the fifteenth century. For his exceptional skill in casting and finishing bronzes, large and small, he was very much the heir of Ghiberti, though he did not study with the older master. Like Ghiberti, he trained as a goldsmith and took his last name from one of his masters. |
