The Triassic was a time of transition. Earth's species rebounded from the planet's largest ever mass extinction -- up to 95 percent of all life-forms had perished at the end of the Permian period. Land animals thrived. Reptiles were prominent, and the first dinosaurs and tiny mammals emerged. Near the end of the Triassic's close another extinction event wiped out most marine reptiles and opened the door for dinosaurs to dominate. |
